Preparing for university
Going to university or moving out of the parental home is an exciting time. Having to cook for yourself may be slightly less exciting and thinking about nourishing your body possibly non-existent!
Learning to cook a variety of quick, easy and cheap meals can boost confidence when moving away from home. Even more beneficial is learning how to look after your body through food. Eating the right foods can support your mental health, help manage stress and strengthen your immune function.
This course will help you to understand how to look after your body and support your mind through food and lifestyle hacks. We will also touch on nutrition to support an active lifestyle and things such as how to choose a good protein powder and when to use them (and when not to).
You will make a breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack, and try a range of foods. Food hygiene and how to store food safely will be discussed as will concepts such as batch cooking.
Recipes, shopping and essential equipment lists are among the items included in your goodie bag to take home so you can feel prepared and ready to look after yourself away from home, and your parents can worry a little less!
Workshops offered include:
- 2-day intensive course
- 3 half day sessions over the course of 3 weeks
‘I sent my son on the Preparation for Uni course, somewhat reluctantly. He was surprised at how much he enjoyed it and he now choses to cook for himself almost every day rather than ordering food through Deliveroo!’
Fiona, Essex
‘The Preparation for Uni course was brilliant. I learned to cook some quick and nutritious meals that I know I will be able to make when I go to uni. I found the Suggested Equipment List very helpful when shopping for things to take away with me. My mum loves it too as I now cook for her at home sometimes’.
